NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Rhode Island Air National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
Persons appointed with indefinite status may be separated when their services are no longer needed. If a permanent status employee at the same grade level as this announcement is selected, Nature of Action will be Reassignment; tenure will not change. If a permanent excepted status employee is selected at a higher grade, Nature of Action MAY be Temporary Promotion. Should the need for the indefinite time limitations placed on this position no longer exist, the Temporary Promotion and/or the Indefinite Appointment COULD be converted to permanent action without further competition.

This position is located in the Aerospace Ground Equipment Section at ANG Flying Activities andmission support units. The primary purpose of this position is to accomplish maintenance on electronically controlled powered support equipment containing highly complex digital devices and integrated circuits.
Current members of the RIANG, E-7 below. Assignment in the RIANG in AFSC 3E1XX, 3E0XX, 2A6XX, 3E0X2. Appointment is contingent upon results of Protocol B Physical Exam. Background Criminal Investigation required prior to appointment. Must have a valid state driver's license.
Brief Description of Duties: Responsible for the accurate interpretation of numerous manufacturer drawings, specifications, operatinginstructions, and test procedures, to troubleshoot, calibrate, align and repair a variety of highly complex pieces of powered support equipment. This includes identifying, repairing or replacing numerous electronic (both digital and analog) components. It also includes the repair of composite materials and state of the art gas compressor turbines and electronically controlled engines. Troubleshoots, repairs, adjusts and aligns down-sized powered support equipment. Uses a variety of sophisticated testers, such as analyzers, digital meters, oscilloscopes and other measuring devices to determine repair requirements. Corrects unusual maintenance problems, by interpreting a variety of technical data such as tables, charts, formulas, color codes, wiring diagrams, and schematic symbols. Does circuit analyses, considers integrated circuit relationships, and applies electronic principles in order to fault-isolate and repair the various digital devices contained in highly complex powered support equipment.Performs inspections, preventive maintenance, servicing, repair, and adjustments on complex rotary diesel engines.Must independently determine work sequences, specifications, and special procedures to be used to fault-isolate and repair unusual problems in various pieces of powered support equipment. Conducts classes to train maintenance personnel in operations, test procedures, and troubleshooting requirements of highly complex powered support equipment.
GENERAL
Experience: Experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge of mechanical maintenance work; ability to read and use technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams and schematics, and skill in the use of equipment and hand tools used in troubleshooting, testing and repairing equipment.
SPECIALIZED
Experience: Experience or training removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts, components, and accessories. Experience which provided working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to powered support equipment and systems; and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments. Experience which provided working knowledge of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships. Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufactures' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.
MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Employment in this position requires membership withinthe Rhode Island Air National Guard. Selected candidate(s) will be required to be in a compatible military grade andassignment within 60 days of the effective date of placement. Should be AFSC qualified within one year of placementaction.
Military Grades: E-7 or below.
Compatible Military Assignments: 3E1XX, 3E0XX, 2A6XX, 3E0X2.
